MAKE YOUR CHILDREN INDIANS

Dr. Dolgobinda Shastri

A child of today is the future guardian of the coming generation. For this end in view, it must be equipped with all that is required for upholding our valuable heritage with our hereditary value based culture, tradition and our age old glorious past.

Intellectuals of most of the civilized countries so far held our heritage and culture with high esteem and reverence. They consider our ancient Vedic culture as the most value-based and highest spiritual edifice. Not only that, they firmly express their view that “At this supremely dangerous moment in human history, the only way of salvation is the Indian way(Arnold Toynbee). Dr. William Durant of U.S.A. says – “India is the motherland of our race and Sanskrit, the mother of European languages. Mother India is in many ways the mother of us all”.      These frank and emotional utterances came out from their innermost feeling.

But when they  observe Indians after enjoying independence for about sixty years, they see that Indians are in name only, but in all other aspects, they are almost  Anglicized very faithfully. They translated the forecast of Lord Macaulay into action. During the early part of British rule, Lord Macauley expressed his firm determination to mould Indian education in such a way that within a few years, Indians will be in name only, but in all other aspects of living, they will be English people. But his promise was not fulfilled. Alas! That has been a fact as we see now our children, our teenaged boys and girls at home and outside. They are running after a phantasmagoria -  a mirage. The present-day record dances and music, the songs, the pictures on T.V. screen – will render them physically drained out of vital energy ending with a diseased body and sick mind.

Non-veg food and wine is a necessity for the western countries, as the climate there is coldest throughout the year. Their way of living, songs, dances, clothing are suitable for them. But ours is extreme  hot  for nine months. Winter is only for two and half months. Our age-old tradition of living, clothing , dances, music are shaped accordingly. India is a tropical country. For eight months a year we need cool temperature. Where as western countries need warm temperature or heat for their body throughout the year. So meat or wine is a necessity for them where as meat or wine is harmful to our health. Our age-old birthday celebrations are in no way inferior or superstitious. Our birthday rituals  are very carefully and scientifically prescribed keeping an eye to hygiene and serene-moulded traditions and customs. But now it is seen that instead of arranging Satyanarayan puja (worship of Lord Vishnu-the supreme caretaker of the human civilization), most of parents are in favour of cutting birthday cakes made of eggs and other similar materials. They are forgetting that on the day of birth of their child, they should pray God for his long life and bright future. So, cooking and  taking  of non-veg food items on this holy day is just a serious sin.

No English parents will prefer to start teaching  their children  any language other than their mother tongue for calling  them as father or mother. Why then our Oriya parents are so much enthusiastic and rejoice to see their baby calling them Dad and Mom. It is simply ridiculous. English parents might have been laughing at us for imitating their social customs, so foolishly.

Enough of it. An Oriya will be a  perfect Oriya  first, and then he will be a perfect Bharatiya or Indian. Because Oriya is a part or limb of our Mother India. A perfect Indian will be a perfect world citizen, as our motherland is a part or limb of Pruthivi Mata.

Our Vedic culture declares that the whole creation of living beings are sons of God- All Mighty.

Sarve Bhabantu Sukhinah

Sarve Santu Niramayah

Sarve Bhadrani Pasyantu

Ma Kaschit Dukhavag Bhavet.

This is the Vedic mantra which all Indians pray God every morning and evening.

Prahlad, a boy of 5+,being the son of a demon king, , gives instructions to his classmates, as a student of primary standard which goes as

“We should practise our spiritual life along with our student carrier, as this human life is very uncertain though it is valuable.”

The present day parents should see that their children should not grow as future civilized beasts . Earning fat salary and enjoying luxurious , artificial and materialistic life, simply confined to eating, going Discoes and parties, showing false status  and ego have become the dream of almost all  young boys and girls. The young mass has no devotion and regards to parents, elders and teachers. Children are feeling ashamed in touching the feet of their parents, teachers and elders, considering it as a backwardness. They are forgetting that it is only their blessings , which can make their life bright and successful. They are now the blind followers of the ‘Hey- Bye and Ta-Ta’ culture.

Hence, make our children true Indians, embodied with the great qualities of Indian heritage and culture.
