Attention plays a vital role in life. It is most indispensable for stud- ents. Children who are more attentive in their schools do better in comparison to less attentive students.

Most parents feel helpless at their homes due to their overactive and restless children. They complain that their children do not sit at the study table for more than half an hour. Some say their children sit at the table but come outside frequently in twenty or thirty minutes, making some pleas.  This is the natural panic reaction of many parents. Parents of these types of fickle guys remain in anxiety during the time of school examinations.   Here are some best ways to increase your child’s attention.

1. Set a Routine:-  Routine is a must for everyone, more so for a student. Your child must have a special routine for studying at home. If this routine habit is inculcated in the child right from the initial years, he or she will be more attentive and able to effectively meet the challenges thrown up by life.

2. Fix the Study Time:- Studying at a particular time improves the attention. Some children enjoy studying in the morning, and some in the night. You should leave this choice to your children.

3. Have a Study Table:- Studying here and there or at  various places affect the attention. Children are certainly more attentive in a particular place, especially at the study table. If one sits at the table, on a straight back chair, he is more likely to concentrate than when lolling around on a sofa. A child lying down on the bed while reading usually falls asleep. So it is best to sit at a table or a desk.

4. Study for Minimum an Hour at a Time:- It takes  at least 8 to 10 minutes to clear out the distractions  and concentrate at study, when anyone sits down to study. So once your child gets into the mood, let him be there minimum for the next 50 minutes or so. There should be no disturbances at that time; otherwise, his attention will be lost.

5. Reduce Distractions at Home:- Your child can be more attentive, in a  perfect and better way, if you make your home distractions free. If you feel that your TV viewing is distracting your child, you should avoid it or watch it with low volume. Avoid even talking to a friend on the phone in a loud voice. Stop screaming and shouting at home, as these divert the attention of your child.

6. Cultivate an Intense Desire to Excel:- You have to impart a drive to your child, a drive to excel and come out in flying colours. Therefore, as the parents, you have to teach your child to take keen interest in whatever he is studying, not just for the school exam but also for the exam of life.

7. Make your Child Disciplined:- In order to make your child more attentive, it is your duty to make him disciplined. Discipline is the key to success.  A child with a strong sense of discipline is generally more serious at his study, and hence is more attentive.

8. Keep Faith on your Child:- Parents must keep faith on their children and maintain a healthy relationship with them based on love, affection and fellow-feelings. By this the child will develop a moral responsibility and can be more attentive.

9. Motivate your Child to be More Confident:- It is seen that children having strong will power are more attentive in their studies. Hence, inspire your child to be confident of his abilities and to put his attention at his study, both at home and at school.

10. Give your Child his Necessary Things:-Children who get their necessary things in right time are more attentive. It is thus, your duty to provide all the things your child requires for his study.

11. Keep your Child healthy:- Health is the real wealth. A healthy mind resides in a healthy body. A healthy  child is  more attentive than a sick one.

12. Give your Child Light Meals to Eat: - Children taking light food are more attentive.  Intake of heavy food is bound to make the child feel lethargic and lazy. Hence, let the child eat lightly at regular intervals, not a heavy meal at once.

13. Don’t Scold, Praise him:- When parents scold their children or beat, they become nervous, lose their confidence as well as attention. Hence, always don’t punish your child, inspire him in his failure and praise him in his success.

14. Allow your child to play:- Games and sports refresh a child’s mind and remove his boardroom. So allow  your child to play in the afternoon at least for one hour so that his mind will be delighted and he can be more attentive.

Follow  these guidelines suggested by experts, you can definitely increase your child’s attention.
