Students are the future guardians of a nation’s destiny and are the moulders and builders of the future of a country. What a nation would be in future, depends upon how her young men and women would be themselves in the early part of their life. It is during the student life they lay the foundation of their character and personality.
In a country like India where majority of the people are ignorant and illiterate the student community has a special role to perform. They are told honesty is the best policy, but see that dishonesty is every where actively practised; they are told that truth triumphs, but see that it is false-hood that is in circulation.
During our freedom movement, students had great role in the destroying the British Empire. But now they have to construct a new nation removing poverty, misery, illiteracy, inequality, terrorism and corruption.
Students can exercise a healthy, modernising influence on our orthodox people. India is yet a country of illiterate masses, where people suffer from superstitions and numerous out-dated concepts. Our students can break the fetters of irrational beliefs and emancipate human spirit.
Indian masses are badly in need of political awareness. India is one of the greatest democracies of the world, but most Indians are still lukewarm of their right to vote. Only students can guide the masses to make desirable political affiliations. They can create a healthy atmosphere of political enlightenment in which an effective and powerful democratic set up may be made possible.
Again our motherland India is a land of diversities, communities, creeds, languages - there is such a confusing multitude that it becomes difficult to achieve harmony. Students can make a substantial contribution by developing a non-communal outlook. They can really reconcile diversities and work for national integration.
Students can play a great role in the development of a nation. They can make their motherland proud by their great deeds. Today China is the most industrialised and advance nation in the world. The Chinese students have great role in making China a super power.
Another great role each and every student of India has to play is saving our Indian society from corruption, political pollution and indiscipline. Students should see that as they will not be misguided and exploited by the politicians. They should raise their voice against corruption in their families as well as in the society. They should spread the message of love, peace and brotherhood. They should try with their best efforts to make people responsible and disciplined. Germany and Japan rose again from the destruction of the Second World War only because of these qualities.
Hence, students are the future hopes of India. The students of modern India have to cultivate in them many great qualities like–hard work, discipline and honesty. They only can help in realising Gandhiji’s ideal of ‘Rama Rajya.’
