TERRORISM

The term ‘terrorism’ is attributed to the violent extremism, which is full of fear aimed at causing terror. It is the negation of truth and humanity and leads to a deliberate and persistent propagation of hatred and falsehood that gradually become the day-to-day habits of some people.

In present time, life in the world has become precariously insecure because of this terrorism, which is assuming menacing proportions with each passing day. It is the naked dance of death and devastation and is indeed the most terrible calamity that can afflict mankind. Terrorist activities in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Israel, Palestine and in Arab countries, particularly in Iraq in recent time have breed violence which does good to none. Even European countries including England and super power America are suffering from the horrors of this brutish and revengeful demon.

Terrorism can be best defined as the systematic use of terror in a variety of ways, a means of gaining the desired ends by force. Disruptive forces are at large in the world and the very existence of mankind is being threatened. After casting a shadow of gloom on many countries, the monster of terrorism has been spreading its ugly tentacles to take the entire earth in its grip. Terrorism springs from political frustration, religious and social fanaticism, unemployment and economic backwardness. It is not only confined to individuals and groups, but sometimes the state itself is involved in terrorist activities.

Terrorism shows its ugly head in the shape of highjacking, kidnapping, assassinating leaders and important persons, and even shooting down of innocent people. The terrorists are extremists and they do not believe that problems can be solved through proper understandings and negotiations. Terrorism thus, strikes at the very root of democracy and is anti- people and anti -progress.

So, terrorism brings nothing but ruin and disaster. It multiplies orphans and widows and creates insecurity in the minds of the people and discourages economic progress. Again, besides heavy losses of lives and limbs, terrorist activities have been causing heavier losses of property and materials. The 11th September attack on World Trade Centre, U.S.A. is the burning example of this inhuman activity.

Another greatest evil of terrorism is that it leads to a serious moral degeneration of the masses. During the terrorist attack family members part and near and dear receive smashing blows. Some times, simple and innocent people are imprisoned in doubt and their humanity is ruthlessly crushed. So, terrorism is the demon of barbarity, which, giving up all pretence, emerges with unconcealed fangs and teeth, ready to tear up the world by spreading devastation. It can be removed only by engendering in its votaries a belief in the fundamental values of life and by spreading the spirit of love, tolerance, brotherhood and mutual understanding.
