Science has transformed human life beyond all imaginations. Life in the modern world is governed and conditioned by the off-shoots of Science. Thanks to the efforts of great scientists, man is no longer a helpless toy in the hands of nature but the proud master of three worlds of land, air and water. According to Bertrand Russel “Science has changed the face of the earth and the world has changed more during the last 150 years than during 4000 years previous to that”. Hence science has revolutionized human life and civilization so much that it is impossible to imagine our existence without it.
Science has revolutionized agriculture. Agriculture in scientifically advance countries is no longer at the whims and mercy of nature. Animal-driven ploughs and devices have yielded place to tractors and other scientific, electricity or diesel operated devices. Natural cow dung manure has been superseded by chemical manures and fertilizers. Moreover, science has built dams and irrigation projects which help converting vast desert into smiling lands of plenty.
For a prolific supply of our daily necessities food, clothes and shelter, we owe a deep gratitude to science. Science runs big industries and the hydroelectric generating stations. Science has also done great service to man, in clothing the naked by inventing fabrics. It is because of scientific and technological development, that we can forecast the weather and protect ourselves from the ravages of nature.
Science has made man’s work easy by the invention of various machines including computer. The sophisticated machines have changed the very face of industry, trade and commerce. The modern house wife now cooks her food in electric, gas ovens and keeps it fresh and delicious in the refrigerator.
Science has made immense contribution to human health. Science has invented innumerable medicines to keep man healthy. The X-ray, the radium therapy, the gama-rays, the penicillin, streptomycins, the anesthetics, the antibiotics have enhanced longevity.
Science has reduced distances. One could easily have break fast in New Delhi, lunch at London and dinner in New-York. Long distance journeys are undertaken in short time by trains and aeroplanes. Messages are flashed over the telegraph, wireless or cell phones in the twinkling of an eye. Telephone has enabled people to talk from thousands of kilometres away.
Science has also blessed man with exciting means of entertainment and recreation through radio, T.V., Cinema, Video CD player.
Science again, has contributed immensely to the dissemination of knowledge and education. The audio-video method of study, the Internet have great contribution in this. So, science is the greatest blessing to mankind.
