INDIAN CULTURE

The term culture refers to a state of intellectual development or manners. The social and political forces that influence the growth of  human beings are defined as culture. The culture of India is one of the oldest and unique. Few countries in the world have such an ancient and diverse culture as India’s. In India, there is amazing cultural diversity throughout the country. People of different region have their own distinct cultures and almost every state has carved out its own cultural niche.

India is a vast country, having varieties of geographical features and climatic conditions. It is the home to some of the most ancient civilizations, including four major world religions- Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism. Hence, in India, religion is very important to the people. It is a major part of the entire Indian tradition. For the majority of Indians, religion takes over every aspect of life, from common  place and daily chores to education and politics. But  common practices are a part of most religious faiths and all communities share many of the festivals that mark each year with music, dance and feasting.

In the realm of music, there are varieties of folk, popular, pop, and classical music. “Unity in diversity”- it is not  just  another phrase or quotation. But, these words are highly prudent to a country like India that is incredibly rich in culture and heritage. Indian culture treats guests as gods and serves them and takes care of them as if they are a part and parcel of the family itself. Elders and the respect for elders is a major component in Indian culture.

Indian culture tells us to multiply and distribute joy and happiness and share sadness and pain. It tells us that by all this we can develop co-operation and better living amongst ourselves and subsequently make this world a better place to live in.
