The teacher is next to mother and father. Parents give birth, but the teacher shows the true path in life. A teacher is a nation-builder. She is the backbone of a nation. She is the chief architect who designs the life and career of the future citizens of a nation.
A teacher is thus, held high in all respects by all. But as every stone is not a gem, so every teachers are not nation-builders. There are some teachers who are the lamps that shatter darkness. Hence, a question arises that what must be the qualities of a teacher? A teacher must be an ideal person with sound health and sound mind. She must be a person of intellect and intelligence. She must be the store house of knowledge and wisdom. She must be the master of her subject and capable of teaching sincerely and enthusiastically. She must explain till every student is satisfied. Her arguments and explanations must be sound and easy so that all students can listen to her most attentively. She must keep the class lively and in good humour.
A teacher must be tolerant and sympathetic at heart. She should neither lose her temper nor get excited. She is to be very regular and punctual. She should teach the value of discipline, obedience, regularity and punctuality. She must give valuable advice to the students and help them when they are in trouble. She must be very fair and impartial. For her all students should be alike. With all these great qualities, a teacher must be very simple in her habits so that each and every student can see their mothers’ image on her.
