Friendship is the most precious degree of human association and it is almost a cult. It is just like a sheltering tree in human life that tones up the life. When we have money or power, we have many friends who always try to please us, and praise and flatter us. Most of them do all these things with a motive, may be for money or some advantage from us. We generally think them to be our true friends and help them with our money and might. But in our misery and bad days they do not come forward and desert us as we are no more able to advance their interests. These fair weather friends leave us alone and do not stand by us even when we eagerly necessitate their presence. It is then we find and realize that they are not true friends. A true friend is thus one who stands in every thick and thin and provides unconditional support. Hence, a friend in need is a friend in deed. The fair weather friends are not true friends and are in our company only to satisfy their selfish ends. They are just like the friend who climbed on a tree by seeing a bear leaving his friend on the ground who did not know how to climb. Hence, in our trouble, we all should test them who assert and stipulate us as our true friends. We all should remember that prosperity gains friends, but adversity tries them and a friend in our adversity is our true friend.
