Gurur Brahma, Gurur Vishnuh, Gurudevo Maheswarah,
Guruh Sakshyat Parambramha Thasmai Sri Guravenamah.
It means:-
Just like Brahma, the teacher is the creator as he is the chief architect designing the life and career of the students; like Vishnu, the teacher is the caretaker because he is the philosopher and guide of his pupils and like Maheswar, the teacher is the destroyer as he can protect the children by destroying all evils.
Dear Children,
In true sense, the teacher is a nation builder. He shows the way and leads you from darkness into light through thick jungles and dark glades. He is the lamp that shatters darkness in your life and the lighthouse that guides the wandering ships of your life by keeping them away from dangerous rocks. He is the priest in the temple of learning where you all are the devotees. Really, the teachers are the first rate people with high degree of excellence and endowed with a spirit of service and sacrifice. Think, how great teachers like Saint Vashisht and Vishwamitra were. Alexander became a world hero only inspired by his great teacher Aristotle, a great philosopher of ancient Greece; Shivaji-the great Maratha rose to the height of fame and glory because of his teacher Guru Ram Das.
Dear ones, you all must have deep regards and unfathomable devotion for your teachers. You should always remember that your parents have given you birth, but your teachers by shaping your life give you rebirth. Hence, in your attitudes, behaviour and activities you must be loyal and committed to your teachers. You must be obedient and disciplined, and true followers of your pathfinders.
Bright stars, as every stone is not a gem, similarly there are some teachers who lack the basic qualities for the noble profession of teaching. They neither possess the requisite temperament of a teacher nor have a true sense of sacrifice and dedication. Being in the noble profession, they play all dirty games for power, self-interest and self -benefits. You all have the power of thought; you can distinguish the ideal teachers. Don’t be motivated by those who show goodness in their speeches, follow them who practise goodness and have the ability to shape your destiny- the real torchbearers.
