BURNING OF CALORIES

The calorie is the pre-SI unit of energy, in particular heat. In most fields, its use is archaic, and the SI unit of energy, the joule, has become accepted. However, it remains in common use as a unit of food energy. It was first defined by Professor Nicolas Clement in 1824.

You don’t have to join a gym to burn calories. Great workouts are all around you—in your home, at your desk, or just outside your front door. And while everyday activities might not seem like much, over the course of a day, the number of calories you burn can really add up. You might be surprised to know just how much calories you  burn doing everyday activities.

 A sound health  person can spend as much as 140 calories by mopping the floor for a half hour. Vacuuming for 30 minutes spends about the same 140 calories. Ironing for a half hour takes off another 75 calories. Climbing stairs and coming back down burns 100 calories in 15 minutes. 300 calories is spent in  washing your car for one hour . Cleaning works after a small birthday party for  an hour burns over 300 calories. If you wash the dishes as well, you’ll burn another 152 calories. If you spend an hour rearranging furniture before  and after your party, that’s a whopping 450 calories. An hour of indoor painting burns 204 calories. Roofing burns a whopping 400 calories an hour.

A healthy  person will burn 177 calories by digging holes for half an hour and another 120 calories cutting grass in the lawn. Bagging leaves  burns 136 calories in 30 minutes. A half  hour of brisk grocery shopping will spend about 130 calories. If you walk a half hour to the store, subtract another 100 calories from your daily total.

 Children burn about 150 calories per hour playing. 10 minutes reading burns 15 calories.  Praying by bending knee burns 68 calories. Computer work for 30 minutes burns 102 calories and office work at the desk burns 122. Taking a shower burns 136 calories and watching TV 68 calories.

 Sports burn calories. 125 calories in 15 minutes of Boxing, 92 calories in 15 minutes of Tennis and 77 calories in 15 minutes of Bowling.

If all else fails, simply sleeping for 8 hours burns 50 calories.
