FAMOUS PLACES OF INDIA

Ajmer:- It is in Rajasthan famous for the tomb of Khwaja Muin-uddin Chisti. It is a famous pilgrim centre of Muslims.

Amarnath:- A pilgrimage centre for Hindus famous for Siva Lingam. It is situated at height of 4054 metre in Kashmir.

Belur Math:- It is a monastery near Kolkata dedicated to Sri Ram Krishna Paramhansa. It was founded by his great disciple Swami Vivekananda.

Dakshineswar:-It is in West Bengal about 8 K.M. from Kolkata, famous for Goddess Kali Temple. It is the place where Swami Vivekananda was initiated into religious life by  Ramkrishna Paramhansa.

Digboi:- It is situated in Assam, famous for rich oil fields & oil refinery.

Gaya:- It is in Bihar famous for Pilgrimage. It Is the place where Lord Buddha got enlightenment.

Gwalior:- It is an industrial town in M.P, famous for its fort, pottery and textile industries. Tansen’s Tomb and Rani Laxmi Bai’s Chhatri are there.

Kanpur:- It is located on the bank of river Ganga in U.P. It is an industrial centre known for sugar mills, cotton mills, woolen mills, soap, iron, leather etc.

Kanyakumari:- Situated on the extreme southern tip of India where Bay-of-Bengal, Arabian Sea & Indian Ocean meet. It is in the state of Tamil Nadu & a famous tourist centre.

Kodai Kanal:- It is a famous hill station in Tamilnadu. It is also famous for its Observatory for the study of Solar Physics.

Kurukshetra:- It is an ancient town near Ambala, Haryana where the great battle Mahabharata was fought between the Kauravs and Pandvas. The famous Kurukshetra University is located there.

Pondicherry:- Formerly a French possession, now it has been specified as Union Territory of India. World famous Aurobindo Ashram of spiritual guru Sri Aurobindo is there.

Shantiniketan:- A famous university founded by Rabindranath Tagore. It is known as Vishwa Bharati and is located near Kolkata.

Varanasi:- An ancient city of Northern India in the state of Uttar Pradesh, famous for Vishwanath Temple and Sarnath.

Vishakhapattnam:- A big harbour city on the eastern coast of Andhra Pradesh.
