A phobia is a type of anxiety disorder. It is an irrational fear of a situation, activity, or thing that causes one to want to avoid it. It includes fright of precise animate or inanimate object, such as fear of snakes, fear of water, fear of speed etc. Phobias thus involve definite behavioural expressions to keep away from something or some object. A phobic individual is often compelled to dwell on the feared thing unnecessarily under certain circumstances. While there is no one specific known cause for phobias, it is thought that phobias are part of some families and are influenced by culture. A phobia is developed when a person’s thinking results in buckle. Some of the most common phobias are fears of public speaking or other social situations, dark, ghost, open & closed-in spaces, flying, speed, blood, animals, driving etc.

Nice Guys, there is a difference between a general fear and a phobia. A person suffering from general fear may be unable to act or make decisions on particular situations. But he can eliminate his general fear with little guidance and with his sincere efforts. On the other hand a phobic person, always lean toward his anxiety and remain in unusual terror. His phobia produces very high level of anxiety in him.  It prevents the person from doing effective works. Phobias often place the victims in more danger. For example, a person who doesn’t know swimming and doesn’t go inside water, if learns swimming, can be a good swimmer and swim in the sea. But a hydrophobic person generally doesn’t want to learn swimming at all and, in a dangerous situation near water, remain in panic and anxiety.

Bright Stars, a phobia is thus, by nature, confined to a specific object or situation. Unlike generalized anxiety disorder, phobia sufferers are not constantly consumed by worry and fear. Nonetheless, a phobia can have a very real and serious impact on your quality of life. Phobias cause awkward and embarrassing situations. If left ignored, a phobia may worsen to the point in which the person is seriously affected. Phobia sufferers have been found facing difficulty in minimizing the intensity of the fearful situation. For example, a fear of flying can result in the individual being unable to travel in air. A phobia does not usually go away unless the person receives proper guidance, counseling and treatment. Phobias can be conquered and a person can recover himself from his phobias through courage, determination, proper training and practical experiences. Hence, you all must banish your phobias in order to make your life bright, prosperous and worthwhile.
