FAMOUS PLACES OF THE WORLD

Brisbane:- It is the capital and chief port of Queensland in Australia. Sugarcane, maize, leather, wood and meat are exported from this port city.

Barrancas:- It is a small township in north-western Mexico which became the world’s first urban settlement to be exclusively powered by solar energy.

Geneva:- It is an important city in Switzerland famous for manufacturing watches. It is the Head quarters of Red Cross, International Labour Organisation & World Health Organisation.

Greenwich:- It is situated on the river Thames near London (England). It is situated on the Zero meridian, well-known for its astronomical observatory. International Standard Time is calculated from here.

Hague:- It is the place having the court, government and parliament of Netherlands. It is also the seat of International Court of Justice of UNO.

Istanbul:- It is the seaport of Turkey, stands on the straits of Bosphorus. Formerly known as Constantinople, it is a center of trade between Asia and Europe.

Los Angeles:- It is a port of California (USA). The famous film industry of Hollywood is established here. The 1984 Olympics were held in this film city of the world.

Manchestar:- It is a well known cotton manufacturing centre in England. It is one of the world’s largest superior cloth manufacturing centres.

Pearl Harbour:- It was a U.S. A. naval base in Hawain islands. The Japanese army had attacked on this on December 7, 1941 during World War 11.

Pittsburg:- It is the biggest iron and steel manufacturing centre of USA and of the world. It is also known for milk, glass and petrolium industries. It is also famous for Pennsylvania University which is 163 metres high and has 47 storeys.

Seychelles:- It is a small island in the Indian ocean. Previously it was a British colony and in 1976 it became independent.

St. Helena:- It is a British island in the South Atlantic Ocean. Napoleon after his defeat was exiled here for the second time and died there in 1821.

Vienna:- It is the capital of Austria famous for  furniture, velvet and glass industry. The headquarters of International Atomic Energy Commission is there.
