Teaching is like no other profession. A teacher is communicator, a disciplinarian, an evaluator, a classroom manager, a counselor, a decision-maker, a role-model, and a surrogate parent. Each of these roles requires ability, good mentality and skills that are often not taught. The followings are some qualities of good teachers.
1. Good teachers love their roles, love being with their students and can’t imagine doing anything else.
2. They possess a great deal of patience and know that little steps in learning go a long way.
3. Good teachers know their students well and children are comfortable with them. Students enjoy their companion and look forward for going school each day.
4. Good teachers provide a non-threatening and welcoming environment that nurtures each of the students they work with.
5. They understand their students, they know what motivates children and how to ensure maximum learning.
6. Good teachers take each student from where they are and provide experiences that will maximize success. They always discover new things about their students.
7. Good teachers constantly motivate their students by highlighting their brighter sides. They never say anything negative about any one by which a child will be discouraged.
8. Good teachers realize the student’s feelings and emotions. They act like friends to students when they are in sorrow or when they are rejoicing.
9. Good teachers always accomplish and accept new ideas and thoughts. At times, the students give better ideas; they accept them without posing any ego.
10. Good teachers have lots of creativity to teach the young minds. They make activity based learning which makes the students to understand better.
11. Good teachers by their high sense of humor, reduce the line of barriers between the students and teachers. This sense of humour helps in tougher situations. This kind of teacher is sure to gain more regards from not just the students but also from their parents.
12. Students are different, some are visual learners, some are auditory and some learn through constant touching and practice. The good teachers possess the ability to deal par with all these type of learners.
13. The good teachers respect their seniors. They never talk ill about their colleagues to students.
14. Good teachers never say we can take good students, those who behave and do good work, but we can’t accept those who do not work, who have the wrong attitude and who cause us trouble. They understand that it’s the acceptance of all that gives power to the teacher.
