Patience is a great virtue, the importance of which cannot be over- stated in any walk of life. It is great a quality that one possesses in order to achieve success in life. There are so many things that take time to develop. It takes time to build anything of any significance in life. But we all want everything very quickly. It is not always possible. A huge building cannot be sustainable without constructing a solid foundation, which takes a lot of time and energy. Similar to the building, the good things in life take time. Sometimes in order to achieve these, one may experience pain and suffering. So, you have to be patient and endure your lives and accept your situations. People sometimes talk about ‘Losing patience’ means not being able to deal with a situation.
What is patience?:- Patience is the state of endurance under difficult circumstances. It is persevering in the face of delay or provocation without acting on annoyance in a negative way. It is exhibiting of forbearance when under strain, especially when faced with longer-term difficulties. Patience is also used to refer to the character trait of being steadfast. Webster’s dictionary defines patience as: enduring pain and trouble without complaint; and calmly tolerating insult, delay and confusion.
What happens when one becomes impatient?:- The answer is very simple:- anger and frustration, and therefore increased anxiety. Lack of patience is a malady. Those who are impatient and egocentric make demands on others, and when their unreasonable demands are not met, they become frustrated, irritable, and upset. Such behaviour is not a formula for success. Impatience is a sign of immaturity. While some of us are born patient, others can develop this in them. Being patient is staying calm, without getting anxious. Many situations arise in our daily life which needs our patience. Annoyed and impatient people are not liked. Patient people have more friends; they are more successful and are healthy human beings.
Why patience is important?:- Patience is important in life because if we try to do something remarkable, we put a lot of stress on ourselves. Life is not a bed of roses. It is about accepting the challenges of the present moment and to overcome these with patience, for a better and brighter tomorrow. Hence, patience is probably the greatest and mighty weapon to conquer the land of success and glory. With unlimited patience you can face any circumstance. The key to our success is therefore, our patience. It could make a big difference to our work, family and social life.
Once you develop your patience, things will be easier for you. But remember, patience does not come in overnight. It usually comes through refinement and suffering, or through spiritual discipline and education. Without patience one is slow, stupid, opinionated, stubborn, addicted, and arrogant. The impatient person let his impatience turn into judgment and anger, and creates mini-wars within his families, workplaces, neighborhood as well as in his life. But losing patience with himself, and with his fellow humans, does not help him at all. It places him in the position of adversary rather than friend. It places him in the position of judge and jury, rather than a source of support. It creates a wall of division, rather than providing a light to make the way easier. Hence, what is needed most in times of challenge, whether personal challenges or universal challenges, is to have patience.
Modern people are very impatient in nature and take most of their decisions in haste. This is the reason why they end up regretting their wrong decisions more often. One needs to be patient and wait for the right movement before taking any step which involves risk. But unfortunately contemporary boys and girls are missing on this patience question. Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet. With patience you can bear up under any adversity and survive any defeat. With patience you can control your destiny and have what you will. Patience is the key to contentment, for you and for those who must live with you. To be ambitious without patience can destroy you. Patience is power. Employ it to stiffen your spirit, sweeten your temper, stifle your anger, bury your envy, subdue your pride, bridle your tongue, restrain your hands, and deliver you whole, in due time, to the life you deserve.
Hence, patience is not only a great quality, it is a power. It is a willingness to accept what cannot be done now. While being patient, we should not remain idle. We should change our tactics, look for other solutions, and relentlessly press on. We can never be sure which path will lead us to the goal we desire, so we patiently, persistently, and perseveringly keep trying until we meet with success.
