Character is most important in student life. It is the most valuable asset in one’s life. It is even more precious than diamond and platinum. It makes life beautiful, healthy and prosperous. The lack of character education is increasingly apparent. Hardly a day goes by without news, stories, about crime and violence. From the school to the colleges, from the family to the workplaces, the quality of character education is being called into question. This lack of character education can be characterized by a number of trends in society. Reduction or elimination of character education in our homes, educational institutions, and religious organizations brings about increasing occurrences of violence in our society. Growing indiscipline, disrespect for authority, self-destructive or addictive behaviour, increasing emphasis on violence and early sexual activity are all its side effects.
Dear Friends, the lack of character education promotes school violence. The rate of serious violent crime-including sexual assault and aggravated assault like ragging, beating, staving and killing mates have been adhering the news paper pages as daily headlines. Although the use of knife and guns in schools are rare, many students remain under threat. There are thousands of instances how many students nationwide reported being threatened or injured with a weapon in the school premises or just outside the school campus.
Nice Guys, Character education teaches youngsters to have respect for teachers, parental authority, the larger community of friends and relations, as well as respect for the society. Finally, you can reason about and justify moral principles on your own. But, often this development path is broken by post-modern social thought. Our post-modern society is characterized with the rejection of sovereign authority. It also rejects the idea of a collective and anonymous authority. The self is exalted, often in excessive self-esteem and self-gratification. But all these take you to the way of destruction and devastation bringing untold repentance. Hence, you all must know the important truth of character education- the universal moral standards in life. These are the standards of right and wrong that help you to regulate your daily activities. It is vital that you must understand the ethical positions and the consequences you have to society. Education without proper character not only affects your study, but also your mental peace, health, safety, and your career and future.
