THE SKY IS LIMITED TO A POSITIVE MIND

Basanta Kumar Biswal

 This thought- provoking topic bears a universal truth. Outwardly the sky seems to be vast, limitless and insurmountable to the human eyes. It is a difficult task to scale the limitless sky. But a man of courage and fortitude will attain dizzy height of success in surpassing the sky by his hard work and firm determination. Man is the noblest creation of God and he has been endowed with many positive qualities like charity, mercy, kindness, sympathy, tolerance and fellow-feeling. These are the rewards unto themselves and these virtuous qualities make him to be the supreme creature of this universe. He moves ahead with undaunted spirit and unparalleled enthusiasm to attain his destined goal keeping in mind the message packed with hard work by H. W. Long Fellow:

“The heights by great men reached and kept,

Were not attained by sudden flight;

But they, while their companion slept

Were toiling upward in the night.”

Life is a long journey. The paths of human beings are not the roses and roses all the way. There are thorns and pebbles on the way and the path is arduous one. There are hills to climb, deserts to cross, rivers to span and snows to traverse. A man with positive bent of mind achieves these miracles in spite of all adversities and obstacles. He thinks that trials and tribulations are just like a patch of dark clouds in the sky. It can never hide the radiant sun for all time to come. A gust of wind can drive away the clouds of difficulties and the sun of joy will smile again.

It is a fact that success is like a diamond covered with dust. Some people can see it and some others can’t. The doors of success do not open at the first knock. One has to sweat, struggle and make sacrifice for it. Hard work and enduring perseverance are the two little keys to open the doors of success. It is also a fact that life is a mingled yarn. Smiles and tears, joys and sorrows co-exist in human life. The chariot wheel of time crushes everything. The wounds of today will be healed in tomorrow. A man with positive mind realizes it and reaches the pinnacle glory by his sharp intelligence and firm will-power. The fruit of hard labour is always sweet and ever lasting. It is the guiding force for changing impossibility to possibility. Hence it is rightly said,

“What is impossible,

If you have intelligence;

What is unachievable,

If your will is firm.”

Let us think about the visionaries. They dream the fantastic picture of the past and do nothing for the present. The daydreamers spend their precious times in dreaming the colourful pictures laying idly without proper effort. It is true that dream is a must to reach the apex of glory. But the dream without determination is meaningless. The pessimists always feel that life is a vale of tears and a sea of problems. Everything looks ugly and distorted to them and they think that they are mere puppet in the hands of fate. Of course, fortunes play a hide and seek game with man. Sometimes man is defeated in spite of honest labour and sincere effort. But a man of courage and determination feels that every cloud has a silver lining and every failure is the stepping stone to success.

On the other hand, negative thoughts like selfishness, greed, jealousy, hatred, violence, enimity and cruelty should be discarded from human heart at all cost. They create injury to the society and the nation as a whole. It is said that negative thought acts like a boomerang and instead of killing to whom it is sent, it destroys its own master.

Now the time has come to think about our spacemen and women like Rakesh Sharma, Kalpana Chawala and Sunita William. They are the glaring example of positive minds. In spite of various hazards, they achieved their cherished goal in conquering the space and proved that the sky has its own limit. Our Ex-President Dr. A.P.J.  Abdul Kalam famous for his masterpiece, ‘The Wings of Fire’ encountered a lot of obstacles, carried out his research and experiment. The goddess of fortune smiled on him and he was crowned with dynamic success by sending different missiles into the space for the technological advancement of our country. Similarly Lalbahadur Shastri started his humble career as a freedom fighter and subsequently adorned the post of Prime Minister of India. In the field of sports, Sachin Tendulkar touched the sky by by scoring highest runs in both ODIs and Tests. Success kissed the feet of Mother Teresa for her self-sacrificing spirit, devotion to duty and dedication to the suffering humanity. Similarly many other leading luminaries of India and abroad have proved that the sky is limited to a positive mind.
