Examination! The very word sends waves of sock and fear in the minds of students. It poses a terrible ordeal before the prospective examinees and strikes their heart with awe. Each and every child longs for a real escape from the tyranny of this merciless and fierce demon. With the thought of examination, a child can not feel free and study with a feeling of sickness. As the fatal day advances, his fear increases and he forgets his food. He prays to be saved from the serious curse of examination which descends like ghost over him.
Examination is necessary in school in order to test the efficiency of the candidates. All will agree that there must be some visible proof that a student is fit to be promoted to a higher class. The following tips are suggested for students in order to get rid of examination fever.
1. Believe in yourself and on your ability. Remember, if you prepare for the exams properly you should do fine.
2. Prepare a revision time table and leave plenty of time to revise so that you don’t get into a situation of having to do last minute cramming.
3. Do not postpone the difficult topics. When your energy level is the highest, tackle the difficult bits.
4. Do not just read. Make notes because summarizing and condensing notes focuses your mind.
5. Take a 5 to 10 minutes break after an hour study and minimum 30 minutes break after every 3 hours of study.
6. Eat well and take proper rest. Don’t drink too much coffee, tea and fizzy drinks; all these will tense you and make your thinking less clear. Eat healthily and regularly; your brain will benefit from the nutrients.
7. Play some game when you find time. This helps you to relax.
8. On the examination day, do not worry, even if you feel that you remember nothing! Try your best, you will be able to recall the questions in front of you.
9. Don’t waste time if you get stuck on a question because it seems difficult or confusing, move on to the next and return to the tough questions after.
10. Plan your time well during the examination and answer all questions.
11. Try to be perfect, but don’t worry for a little mistake. It’s great to succeed and reach at the top. But keep things in balance. If you do a little wrong, then don’t create a mountain of unnecessary stress.
12. After the exam don’t spend endless time criticizing yourself for where you think you went wrong. Congratulate yourself for the things you did right, learn from the bits where you know you could have done better, and then move on.
REMEMBER: Examinations are not the be-all-and-end-all of your life, they are just one aspect of your life as a student.
