Dear Children,
Your study habits have many vital roles to play in building your career and shaping your future. Students with effective study habits make better grades and suffer less stress during exam time. They develop effective study skills, improve reading comprehension, discover their own personal study style, manage their time more efficiently and learn the best way to prepare for exams. They are also more likely to increase their confidence and competency as they continuously learn new things. They tend to approach their schoolwork with a positive attitude, rather than a negative, anxious one.
Bright Stars, the first, and arguably the most important, study habit is recognizing that you are responsible for your successes and also your failures. Taking on this responsibility entails the understanding that your priorities, decisions, habits, and resources all determine the success you have, or do not have, with studying. This responsibility carries over to the friends, family, and acquaintances you choose to surround yourself. Having a clear sense of who you are, including your beliefs and values, instead of letting others dictate what you say, do, and believe, will also help you to be more successful on the path you choose.
Nice Guys, finding the times and places when and where you do the best work is essential to being successful and reaching your goals. Are you more alert in the morning or the early evening? This will help you decide when you should schedule study time. Also, make sure you have a room or quiet place that is set up for studying. It should be free from disturbances and hold everything you need to have an effective study session- a study table, a chair, proper light and ventilation, a book-self containing your textbooks and notebooks, a dictionary etc.
Friends, unfortunately, many students in the 21st century are poorly prepared for school work. Most have poor or no study habits. More and more students lack the ability for preparing notes. Many do not plan their study time and do not know how to organize subject material in order to learn and succeed. Hence, if effective study routines are not learned or taught, you will not be likely to succeed.
