ANGER- THE WORST DEVIL

Chaudhury Satya Das, Editor, Education & Awareness

One of the serious problems that we all  face in our day to day life is anger. It is omnipresent everywhere,   almost in every walk of life. News of persons  killing their friends, relatives, family  members, colleagues or higher authorities, even of students killing their classmates  have been adhering the pages of news paper almost everyday. All these are due to anger,  the greatest enemy of a man.

Anger is a serious internal problem which seems to be with us all the time until death. It makes every- body its slave and victims. It acts as a boomerang, as it harms the man who expresses it. Anger destroys reason and makes man to do things which can not be imagined. It is the enemy of peace and foe of knowledge. It makes a person senseless and perfectly blind; and forces him to do all injustices. That is why when a person gets  angry he becomes a demon and performs all the brutal and inhuman deeds of a wild uncivilized beast.

Anger breaks friendship, brings family conflict, destroys family life, departs parents from their children and purchases enmity. An angry man is considered as the worst devil. He is criticized by all. No body likes his companion. Because there is no sin which can not be committed by him in an angry mood. Under the influence of anger he abuses, insults and even murders his family members, friends, relatives or even teachers.

Several studies show that children in recent years have become more short-tempered and violent. They are creating many problems in their  homes, schools, coaching centres and outside places.

What is anger:- Anger is a natural and normal emotion. But when it is increased in intensity and frequency, it becomes a mental weakness. It is started from mild irritation and is ended with absolute fury. Anger is excited by a real or a fancied injury in mind, involving a desire for retaliation.  When it comes, it immediately paralyses one’s physical, mental and emotional balance. In anger a person’s  blood boils, eyes becomes blood-shoot and a great heat is spread in his body. His limbs also tremble, lips quiver and fists are clenched. And he  stammers and fumbles.

Causes of anger:-   The cause of every sin or wrong deed in this world is desire. Anger itself is a form of desire. The root causes of anger are-ignorance, ego, inability in solving a problem, inferiority  complex,  jealousy, blind love, impatience, over ambition, excess work pressure, doing of different types of work at a time, ill health, family conflict, financial crisis, illicit affair, suspicion,  smoking, taking of liquor or any other narcotics, lack of proper rest, eating of too much spicy and oily  food, extreme hot, wearing synthetic clothes, excess desire  for more money, power, honour and sex. It also arises when one is insulted, abused, criticized, scolded and bitten or suffers from headache, indigestions and constipation. Again, anger can be genetic.

All these reasons cause anger both in children and adults. Besides these, there are some other grounds for which anger is growing more among children. Even for the children of five-six years  of age, anger has become a serious problem. Too much exposure to various forms of media creates anger. Watching cartoons, fight shows and violent scenes in TV  make them angry. Playing violent games in TV  Video games or in computer also make them so angry.  Again too much stress of study, hectic study schedule and parents’ pressure are  the causes of anger.

Ill effects of anger:- Anger wastes energy, damages blood cells and brings blood pressure. It brings fear,  nightmares, depression, headaches, rheumatism, heart disease , nervous disease and ulcers. It also causes enmity, tension, loss of memory, spoils family life and destroys friendship. It makes one alone and leaves him lonely as no one likes to stay with an angry person. It makes life full of sorrow, misery and sufferings. All the roads to success are closed due to anger. A  powerful person, who makes others victims of his anger, is criticized and hated by every body.

Angry children face many problems in their schools and other  places. They suffer a lot in their studies, become confused,  lose their confidence and can not concentrate properly.

How to control anger:- Anger  can be controlled by  avoiding  an argument, leaving the place, throwing away jealousy and inferiority complex, developing positive thoughts, love and charity, avoiding gossip and excess passion for anything,  maintaining good health and by doing yoga and meditation. Anger can also be reduced to a maximum extent by giving up smoking, drinking and by not eating oily and spicy  food.  It can  be controlled   by not moving in extreme heat and by wearing cotton clothes. It can also be kept in control by sleeping early at night.  One can also reduce his anger by  visualizing a relaxing and interesting experience. Playing  games and morning walk are also very effective in diminishing anger. But those who are with serious anger, they should consult psychiatrists.

Do not allow your children to watch television for many hours. Motivate them not to see cartoon shows and  violent scenes always in TV             and restrict them from playing fighting games in computer or TV video game. Again always do not pressurize them to study and allow them to play.

Hence, anger always begins in folly and ends in repentance. The harm it causes  can not be filled up. It is an obstacle in one’s success and ruins one’s career and life.
