New beginnings, new hopes and new aspirations all these characterize the usherance of a new year. Hence, the very dawn of the New Year is the time to look back to the faults and mistakes of the closed year and more significantly to take lessons from past to make the present more promising and prosperous. Therefore, New Year’s resolutions are most necessary for the parents who want their children to achieve greater success. These are some resolutions every parent should make on New Year.
1. Be a good role model for your children:- Parents have profound influence on the way their children grow up. They are the first teachers. Your children inherit a lot from you. Hence, give up all your bad habits and be a role model for your children. Teach your children to be loving, kind and ideal human beings by setting the best example that you can.
2. Set and enforce rules:- Good parenting is all about bringing a balance between love and discipline. Teens crave independence, but they don’t have the mature brain. You should set consistent limits and boundaries for your children. You should enforce these with plenty of love and support.
3. Encourage your children:- Parents should make a fresh start towards more positive parenting. Focus on your child’s strengths. Make sure that your child knows that you are his biggest cheerleader. It has been estimated that children who always hear negative comments at home, react violently. Continuous criticism and negative comments put disastrous effects on children’s self esteem.
4. Give more time to your children:- Now in the era busy life, most parents are not getting much time to devote for their children. But this is wrong, not justified at all. Earning money, or doing the work, in which there is no time for family, especially for children; then the money, name or fame are for what, for whom! Hence, you should give due time to your children. You should read your kids every night and share your activities with them. Researches have shown that children from the families that stay together and eat together are healthier and more successful in school and life.
5.Avoid overprotection:- Overpro- tective parents always like to protect their children from all difficulties and rob them of opportunities to develop indepen- dence and responsibility. They keep the books and copies of their children in their bags according to school timetable, carry the school bags and take forgotten lunches to school. This is not good at all. You must let your children to take their responsibility for their own actions.
6. Develop proper study habit of your children:- Proper study habit is most essential for children to excel in life. Hence, it is your duty to develop proper study habit in your children. Arrange a particular study place with study table and chair and fix the study time.
7. Develop proper reading and writing skill of your children:- Reading and writing skill are more valuable for children. Children, who read their lessons properly and memorize the answers by writing twice or thrice, remember properly and for longer periods.
8. Control your television set:- Now almost all the family members are addicted to some serials or reality shows. If the television is continually on at your home, you can’t not restrict your children of watching it.
9. Check your children’s computer usage:- Computers, to be fair have more educational potential. But most children use them for games. The Internet can be a dangerous place for your teens. Hence, don’t leave children to their own devices in their closed study room.
10. Be friendly with your children:- Every parent wants their teens to come to them if they have a problem. But for this you have to open the lines of communication so that your teens will feel comfortable to share with you.
11. Teach your children to eat healthy foods:- Encourage your children to develop healthier eating habits which includes consuming fruits, milk and vegetables and giving up junk food. Since mothers are epitome of love and inspiration, they must scrutinize their children’s eating habits and put a stop to fast foods and colas.
12. Encourage regular physical activity:- Obesity in children is rising because of their life-styles. It is extremely important to make your children realize the benefits of regular physical activity. Allow them to play the sports of their choice in the afternoon.
