Concentration is the steady attention on a single object. It is the ability to view a thing from every aspect with careful observation. It is the working of the whole mind at one point. When the mind focus on a particular thing that is called concentration. Arnold Bennett describes concentration as “the power to dictate to the brain its task and ensure its obedience”.
Concentration plays a vital role for success in life. It develops rapid thinking and turns uninteresting ideas into prosperous schemes. It is most essential in each and every sphere.
Today, more than ever, concentration is totally necessary for effective work. Now is the age of distraction, with interruptions of telephone, mobile phone, fm radio, television, friends, relatives, neighbours, subordinates and noises. Disturbance is reigning in each and every sphere- home, school and all working places. But, increasingly and serious works have to be done in spite these conditions which are inhospitable to concentration. So, concentration is most important for success in this competitive globalized world. Especially for students, it is most essential as all learning and skill depend upon it. It is concentration that increases their mental efficiency, brings better performance in their educational institutions and above all builds their careers. Again, by concentrating properly on his studies either in home or school, he understands easily and remembers perfectly. Hence, a child now has to concentrate more on his studies and it is the duty of his parents, guardians and teachers to develop his concentration.
How to develop concentration:-
If the child is studying properly with interest and sincerity, then the parents and teachers have to simply guide him. But if he is fickle and is not concentrating properly, then the parents have to play vital roles in order to develop his concentration. The following methods are suggested for the parents to improve the concentration of their children.
Provide your child a study room:- A study room plays a vital role in developing the concentration of a child. It is free from disturbances and the arrangements of table, chair and book-self provide him more interest to concentrate in his study.
Make a proper study habit:- Fix proper study time for your child. This provides a child responsibility and he concentrate properly in his studies considering it as his first and foremost duty as a student.
Keep your child healthy:- Health is the real wealth. A healthy mind resides in a healthy body. A healthy and disease free child is capable of concentrating more than a sick one.
Make your child disciplined:- Discipline is most important for concentration. Indisciplined children read story books and other books in study rooms spoiling the study hour.
Involve yourselves in your child’s study:- Parents having children with poor concentration have to involve themselves in their children’s study. By this the confidence of the child is increased and he concentrates properly.
Provide your child his necessary things:- If the child gets his necessary study materials in proper time, then he concentrate more on his studies with joy and interest. So, provide your children their required study materials in time.
Don’t pressurize your child to study all the times:- Parents who always pressurize their children to study, it is seen that their children lose their concentration. This is so because by this they lose their interest and think many things and look here and there. So, do not pressurize your children to study all the times.
Allow your child to play:- Games and sports refresh a child’s mind and remove his boardroom. So allow your child to play in the afternoon at least for one hour so that his mind will be delighted and he will concentrate in his studies.
Never keep your child hungry during study hour :- A hungry child can not concentrate properly because hunger provides him pain and weariness. So, before study hour give food to your child.
Develop his will power:- You can develop the concentration of your child by developing his will power.
Motivate to enjoy his lesson:- If the child enjoys his lesson, then he will concentrate more. So, motivate your child to enjoy his lesson like games.
Keep your home noise free:- Parents who watch television with high volume, their children can not concentrate in their study properly. So, do not quarrel or shout in your home and watch television with slow sound.
Don’t scold or beat your child:- Scolding and beating give shock and fear to the child. These upset him and disturb his mind. A child in such a condition can not concentrate properly.
Tell your child to pray God:- Prayer provides energy and builds self-confidence. Tell your child to pray God. You will find your child is concentrating properly.
Follow these methods and you can find out the result within one month.
